What is Networking?

Networking is knowing who you come in contact with and knowing the relationship you have with that person. Networking is ONE WAY to purposly take care of the people you know and to reach out to those in need. This is ONE WAY that we stay focused on that purpose here at CrossTown, but we recognize that there are many other ways to reach your community. If you find one that better suits you, please use that. This section is for those asking, "O.K I'm supposed to reach into my community but how?"

How do we Go out to the Community?

How do I identify my Network?

Simple! Look to your left. On the picture to the left there are 3 different colored paths leading to different nodes.

The green represents those people closest to you. That would be your close friends, a close student, a mentor etc.

The blue represents people you would say you know. That would be you're friends, other members in a group your in, classmates you talk with etc.

The purple represents people that you come in contact with, or have the potential to come in contact with, during the week. It could be your neighbor, a distant co-worker, a friend of a friend, classmates you have never talked with etc.

What do I do now that I know my Network?

You take care of your greens. Anyone you would put in that green category is someone you should look out for. You purposly see them often and you do for them as much as you can.

You hang out with your blues. These are people who you should try to get to know better. By showing your blues who you are, if you are representing Christ, you will be sharing the image of Christ with them. These are great people to invite to a service project either with a small group, large group, or different organization.

You reach for your purples. Those are the people who grow your blues and greens. Our purpose is to bring the cross to the community and if you reach for your purples by inviting them fishing, sky diving, or by mowing their lawn you (the cross) are going to your community.

Why is this important?

Because without reaching into our community we are not doing what Christ told us to do. Before He left, Christ told us to go and make disciples. A disciple is a follower, and a follower can only be made by exposing yourself to your community through service and relationship.
